Inter-American Court Declares Licensing of Journalists Illegal

In an advisory opinion of November 13, 1985, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights unanimously declared by a decision of 6-0 that the compulsory licensing of journalists is incompatible with the American Convention of Human Rights.  The advisory opinion orginated in a request by the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA).
