On December 20, 2016, the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) confirmed, on behalf of the Council, that after a year of discussions, the European Parliament and Council have reached a provisional political agreement on a proposal for a directive on control of the acquisition and possession of weapons known as the Firearms Directive.
