On March 7, 2012 prosecutors for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in Hague, announced they are seeking a 28-year prison term for the Serbian nationalist Vojislav Seselj. The accused is on trial for alleged war crimes during the Balkan Wars of 1991-1993 and pleads not guilty to all. Prosecutors accuse Seselj of indoctrinating Serbian volunteers and directing them to murder, torture and rape non-Serbs. Seselj is also accused of conspiring with Serbians Slobodan Milosevic and Ratko Mladic, who await their own trials by the ICTY. The Serbian nationalist has already been convicted of contempt of court twice, raising the issue of whether or not the tribunal will continue as planned.
