European Ministers of Justice Sign Convention on the Enforcement of Foreign Criminal Sentences and Other Acts

On November 14, during the Intergovernmental Conference of Ministers of Justice, the nine Justice Ministers signed a convention on the enforcement of foreign criminal sentences. The Convention npermits for the enforcement of a judgement on a territory of another signatory state than the one on which the sentence is pronounced. Three governments did not sign. In the case of Portugal there appears to be no difficulty in principle. In the other two countries, the United Kingdom and Ireland, an in-depth study will be made of their possibly joining and the compatibility of this convention with their own legal systems.
