Abstract:
A series of reports issued by human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), have become increasingly vocal in calling for the United Nations Security Council to refer Syria to the International Criminal Court (ICC), in response to the Syrian government’s ongoing, brutal crackdown against civilian protesters. At the same time other international organizations, such as the European Union, are pursuing their own sanctions against the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.             1              CNN Wire Staff, World Pressure Grows on Syria, CNN U.S., Sep. 23, 2011, http://articles.cnn.com/2011-09-23/middleeast/world_meast_syria-unrest_1....
