U.S. Investigates Role of Private Military Company in Liberia

On August 7, 2003, the Financial Times reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was investigating the role of an Anglo-American private military company, Northbridge Services Group. Northbridge may have fought on behalf of a rebel group while planning to arrest President Charles Taylor and bring him to Sierra Leone to answer charges. Northbridge’s actions may have violated a United Nations arms embargo, and have opened up a host of questions around its liability for casualties and to which state they answer to, since the group includes individuals trained by the CIA and Special Forces.
