South Africa Arrests U.S. Murder Suspect

On November 8, 2002, the South African Government arrested James Kilgore, a former member of the radical Symbionese Liberation Army, 27 years after he fled California on murder charges. According to Anton Katz, Kilgore?s lawyer, Mr. Kilgore had been negotiating for more than six months to return to the U.S. to face the charges. Mr. Katz said his client wanted to return to the U.S., but only if there is a documented extradtion request. Nevertheless, South African police immediately rearrested him for violating immigration laws. In particular, he was rearrested on charges of making false statements to immigration authorities and entering the country under a false name.
