Abstract:
On August 24th, 2011, the Supreme Court of El Salvador ordered the release of nine former military officials held pursuant to arrest warrants and INTERPOL Red Notices issued by the Spanish National Court under principles of universal jurisdiction. The nine are among 20 Salvadoran defendants charged with crimes against humanity for the 1989 murders of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper, and her sixteen-year-old daughter.
