Abstract: 
During the ordinary legislative procedure, at its second reading on July 6, 2011, the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution on the Council position at first reading with a view to the adoption of a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council facilitating the cross-border exchange of information on road safety related traffic offences. By this resolution, the EP instructed its President to forward its position to the Council, the Commission, and the national parliaments. The legislative proposals need final approval by Member State Governments before becoming law – this should happen in the coming weeks. There is then a two year period for Member States to transpose EU legislation before it comes into force, possibly by 2013...(more)...
