"In July 2008, Canadian authorities deported Private Robin Long, 25, of Boise Idaho, who left his U.S. Army unit in 2005 because of his moral opposition to the war and fled to Nelson, British Colombia, a town that has become a haven for U.S. soldiers who have deserted because of opposition to the war. Canadian authorities deported him after it denied his application for refugee status.
