"On August 22, 2008, Brazil extradited Juan Carlos Ramírez-Abadía, 45, allegedly a leader of Norte del Valle (NVC), a notorious cartel in Colombia, to the United States where he has been indicted on federal charges of homicide, drug trafficking, and money laundering. In August 2007, Brazilian law enforcement authorities arrested Mr. Ramírez-Abadía in São Paulo. In April 2008, a Brazilian court convicted him and sentenced him to 30 years and 5 months in prison for money laundering, corruption, and other crimes...[more]"
